Chamaerops humilis

Chamaerops humilis.
An attractive palm which originates from the mountainous regions of Southern Europe. Can tolerate to -10°C and windy sites when larger. Loves a fertile well drained soil in full sun or partial shade . Matures to a beautiful bushy palm 2-3m high with multiple trunks. However, if you want a single trunk specimen to 5m then this can be achieved by some rigorous pruning and cleaning of the trunk. Chamaerops have sharp spines at the base of each leaf stem so be careful when moving or planting as they can be quite painful. If a leaf becomes tatty, simply prune the stem to the trunk and new leaves will emerge from the crown of the palm.
