Bananas
BANANAS

Banana plants have been grown in Cornish gardens since Victorian times, not for their fruit but for the impact of their tropical appearance. Musa basjoo is the most common banana to have been grown, with its huge paddle shaped leaves it certainly makes a dramatic statement. Some of the Musa species of bananas are quite easy to grow in a sunny sheltered spot and can even be left in the ground for the winter with some protection. Other more tender species of Musa with their Ensete cousins are quite happy outside during the summer months and can be quite easily kept alive during the sinter in a frost free greenhouse.
