Colocasia gaoligongensis.
Shame about the mouthfull of a name because this Colocasia deserves to be more well known.
It is reputed to be the hardiest of the Colocasias in cultivation,
surviving in the ground during winters down to -8C.
The leaves are bright green with a dark brown centre 'splash' and have pronounced veins.
In late summer they produce arial stolons (runners) that travel over the soil surface for up to a metre
before plunging into the soil where they produce new plants. Bright yellow flowers (spathes) are also produced
adding to the charm of this exotic aroid.
They grow well in full or partial shade in a rich soil. Provide plenty of water during the summer months.
Height up to 1m.
